Westwood awards community's quiet achievers
Westwood, an award-winning residential development, is on the lookout for ‘quiet achievers’ to make some noise about their contribution to the local community.
Nominations are now being sought for the 2008 Westwood Community Awards to find the region’s unsung heroes who are making a difference to other people’s lives.
Westwood, one of Australia’s largest urban renewal projects, began in 1999 as a $600 million joint development between Housing SA and Urban Pacific Limited in conjunction with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the City of Charles Sturt. It incorporates the north-western suburbs of Ferryden Park, Mansfield Park, Woodville Gardens, Angle Park and Athol Park.
Urban Pacific State Manager, Mark Devine, said the Westwood Community Awards recognised people and organisations within the Westwood region, including the Parks area, who have risen to the challenge and made a difference in the community.
“These unsung heroes of our local community rarely receive the recognition they deserve. We’d like to change that,” Mr Devine said. “This year we have also introduced two new categories with a sustainability theme - “Water Wise Home Garden” and “More Recycling, Less Waste.”
“It may be a school teacher, volunteer, dedicated gardener, someone who cares for the environment, a sports person or club, a small business owner or just a resident who has helped their neighbours in some way.
Mychelle Curran, General Manager Asset Services, Housing SA said “The Westwood Awards recognise the ongoing support and importance of partners working together to achieve positive outcomes for the Westwood community.
“We’re looking for people to nominate a local resident or themselves. In addition to the awards, one lucky person will win a $200 Centro Arndale gift voucher for nominating another community member or organisation.”
Last year’s winners included arts based community initiative, Helix Project at The Parks, St Johns Cadet Samantha Tulloch and favourite local business, KT Westwood Pharmacy.
