A New Community at Cheltenham, South Australia
Urban Pacific and joint venture partner AV Jennings have welcomed today’s announcement by the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) on the awarding of the tender for the redevelopment of the Cheltenham Park Racecourse site.
Both Urban Pacific and its joint venture partner have a strong presence in the local residential marketplace, delivering social and community development outcomes which include affordable housing in and around Adelaide.
Urban Pacific National Operations Manager, Neil Anderson, said: “The new community will be dynamic and diverse with a compelling blend of housing options in a beautiful setting, with quality and sustainability built into all aspects of the project.
“Our proposed open space strategy will create a new community environment that we believe will appeal strongly to future residents as well as the surrounding community.”
“Our expertise lies in designing and delivering a community, not just a housing project."
“Our aim is for the project to invigorate and refresh the surrounding communities, by offering new parks, open spaces and wetlands, as well as the potential for new retail and recreational facilities.”
Features proposed as part of the Cheltenham development include:
· Significant open space incorporating a central park, town square, boulevard reserves, parks
and gardens;
· Wetlands, including leading water sensitive urban design initiatives to harvest and re-use stormwater for
long term sustainability;
· A high diversity of housing types to appeal to a wide range of people;
· Potential for new retail and recreational facilities and a new SAJC sports and community club.
Urban Pacific and AVJennings are responsible for masterplanning and building many of Australia’s most innovative and awarded residential community developments.
In South Australia, Urban Pacific is involved in one of Australia’s largest urban renewal project at Westwood, located in the north western suburbs and just 1km from the Cheltenham Park site, as well as the Promenade development alongside the River Torrens at Underdale.
