Tuesday 13th November 2007
Medallist Developments today announced the commencement of its $650 million development Stonecutters Ridge with the official turning of the first sod ceremony, attended by the Honourable Frank Sartor, Minister for Planning, Redfern Waterloo.
Located in Colebee, a community of Blacktown, the 150 hectare masterplanned community is Medallist’s latest integrated residential and golf course lifestyle estate and first development in Sydney.
Stonecutters Ridge will be providing 818 housing lots to the north-west region of Sydney as well as a world class amenity - Sydney’s first Greg Norman-designed golf course.
Stonecutters Ridge forms part of the first land release under the Iemma Government’s Growth Centres Plan, part of the Metropolitan Strategy for Sydney.
Colebee has been identified as being part of the first four years of land release for the North West Growth Centre to be managed by the Growth Centres Commission.
Medallist Developments is an international developer of premier residential golf course communities. Formed in 1997 as a joint venture between Greg Norman’s Great White Shark Enterprises and Macquarie Group Ltd, Medallist has developed projects in the USA, South Africa and Australia.
Completed projects within Australia include Settlers Run and Norman Estates at the National in Victoria, The Vintage in the Hunter Valley, NSW and Brookwater and Pelican Waters in Queensland. Several of these projects have won masterplanning, development and golf design awards.
Greg Norman, who played an integral part in designing the golf course said, “I am proud to be associated with this outstanding masterplanned lifestyle community. We are providing an affordable luxury estate with the only world-class golf course in the north-west region of Sydney, which may be used by both the public and club members.”
Creating an inspiring, amenity-focused lifestyle community with strong environmental guidelines was a key vision for Stonecutters Ridge.
Paul Hedge, General Manager – NSW at Medallist Developments, is managing the project on behalf of Medallist. Paul commented, “Stonecutters Ridge will incorporate the area’s natural undulating landscape and water features within its design, with almost 60% of estate dedicated to open green space and the golf course.”
“Whilst 25% of the homes will benefit from golf course frontage, many elevated home sites will provide panoramic golf course and parkland views. The estate will also include extensive walking and bicycle paths,” he said.
Irrigation for the golf course will be provided by recycled water (tertiary treated effluent) from the nearby Sydney Water treatment plant at Quakers Hill.
Stonecutters Ridge’s architecturally designed Village Centre will provide amenities to help establish a true sense of place. These include the clubhouse, bar/bistro, gymnasium, swimming pool, two tennis courts and pro shop.
Paul continued that a key feature of the development is the availability of large lot sizes in comparison to the remainder of the Growth Centre. Stage 1 has lots ranging in size from 550m2 to in excess of 1000m2.
Stonecutters Ridge is a seven year project and current plans are to release 40-50 lots within each stage. The golf course is due to be completed in 2010, with the housing estate’s first release scheduled for May 2008. Lots are anticipated to be priced from mid $300,000.
The 18 hole par 71 golf course will measure 6,346 metres. Golfers will also benefit from practice facilities and a driving range as well as a clubhouse and recreation facilities.
Stonecutters Ridge is located 35km north-west of the Sydney CBD with easy access to the M7 Motorway.
